The happy berries, also known as goji berries have been fairly classified as superfoods the past few years. According to a recent study, published in the Journal of Alternative Medicine, people who consumed Goji berries reported in numerous health benefits unlike those who didn’t. The history of the plant begins in ancient China, where people have begun to use dried happy berries for the therapeutic treatment of liver and eye diseases. Nowadays, happy berries are included in high gastronomy dishes, not for being healthy, but mainly for their unique sweet and sour taste.

Goji berry's nutritional value

High concentrated in vitamins and minerals, the happy berries can be characterized as a “nutritional treasure”. They are a good source of vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and 8 different amino acids. Although they are fruits, they have a surprisingly high amount of protein, thus, a small quantity of 4 gr goji berries can provide us 10% of our daily value for protein. Furthermore, the berries have also complex carbs, so they have a low glycemic index. This means that after eating them, our blood sugar increases very slowly, thus they are ideal for diabetes II sufferers also.

The consumption of happy berries daily appears to have unique benefits for human health:
1. Potential weight loss, fat burning without the simultaneous loss of muscle tissue.
2. Happy berries enhance our immune system and protect us against infections
3. Supply our body with antioxidants

How to add goji berries on your daily diet

You can find goji berries in the market both as dry and fresh fruits. Use them the same way you do with raisins or other nuts. You can mix them with your cereals for breakfast, add them in cakes, sweet bread or pies. In general, most people do not face any problems after consuming goji berries. However, some people report digestive or allergy problems. If you suffer from gastrointestinal disorders, ask your doctor before consuming them in any form.
